Years ago, after running out of breadboard space yet again, I reimplemented the ZM1 6502 computer in a Xilinx Spartan-3AN FPGA on a Spartan-3 Starter Kit board.

I’ve just taken delivery of a Papilio Pro board which contains a Spartan-6 with a whopping 64KB of block RAM, so porting the ZM2 to it seemed like the perfect way to test it. Porting the VHDL only took a couple of hours, but remembering how to build the ROM image after a 6 year gap ended up taking an entire weekend.

This time I’ve documented how to build the ROM and put everything in a Mercurial repository.
